33 year old, Belgian designer ANTHONY VACCARELLO quit Versace on Monday and by Wednesday was appointed the new Creative Director OF THE MAISON YVES SAINT LAURENT!
Anthony Vaccarello will present his first collection for the house in October 2016, during Paris Spring-Summer 2017 fashion week.
The end of Slimane, at least as far as Saint Laurent.
(archive) We suspected it would happen, it has! and it was no April Fools.
The mastermind who turned Yves Saint Laurent into a much edgier SAINT LAURENT, has quit his day job and left us with a fashion debt of gratitude that comes along few and far between.
From 1992 to 1995, Slimane was one of seven designers to assist fashion consultant Jean-Jacques Picart on the centenary of the project “monogram canvas” of Louis Vuitton. From there, he began to revolutionize fashion. In 2002 he helped soar DIOR to greater heights with a 41 percent increase in men’s ready-to-wear, while also in 2002 Hedi Slimane became the first menswear designer to receive the CFDA award for International Designer. David Bowie, whom Hedi Slimane dressed for his world tours, presented him with the award.
Hedi Slimane, without doubt resurrected Saint Laurent from a middle aged fashion house to a edgier younger and most definitely transcendent powerhouse!
His unique creations have been popular with the likes of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Angelina Jolie, Harry Styles, and many more.
More recently, and now we learn Hedi’s swan song, Slimane held a Saint Laurent runway show for the label’s fall 2016 menswear collection and part one of its women’s ready-to-wear collection. It was actually the first time Saint Laurent had a major fashion show in L.A and as you can imagine it was attended by many a Hollywood Celeb, including Justin Bieber seen here. Looking forward to seeing what comes next from Mr. Slimane!
